| The College of Management of Beijing Sport University is a major center for personnel training in sport management in China. Mr. Li Menghua, the then minister of the SCPCSC, once wrote an inscription for Department of Sport Management, “Develop the science of sport management and cultivate talents in the area”. Over the past 20 years, College of Management has fostered more than 600 specialized personnel in sport management for the Chinese sport course. They are working for sport administrative departments, leading sport media and well-known sport companies home and abroad, contributing to the development of Chinese sports.
At present, there are nearly 760 students, 52% are undergraduates, 26% are master students, 9% PhD students and approximately 13% are the International Coursework students. Nearly 80% of the teachers are professors and associate professors, also nearly 80% of teachers have PhD degrees. Furthermore, the College has invited some renowned scholars home and overseas and leaders and entrepreneurs involved in sport management as sessional teachers of the College.
The teaching sections of Science of Sport Management, Sport Economics and Industry and the Olympic Movement (Sports Social Science) subordinating to College of Management offer compulsory and optional courses for undergraduates, master students and PhD students of the University. In the teaching evaluations carried out by the University and students’ responses to the teaching quality, these teaching sections keep high rankings. Some teachers of the college are awarded with the title of “Most satisfied teachers”.
The profound research capability of the College is attested with the abundant achievements in the field of Sports Social Science. The headquarters of Asia Association for Sport Management, Sport Management Society of China, Research Center of Sports Social Science affiliated to General Administration of Sport are located at the college. A number of teachers are taking up major posts in various international and national academies. Besides, the College has undertaken and completed many projects of the national and ministry levels. In accordance with an incomplete statistics, from April 2000 to July 2006, 25 research projects were taken up, including 9 of the national level and 1 of the ministry level. 6 awards of the ministry level were granted. Some key projects of the national and ministry levels, such as A National Survey of Mass Sport and A Research on Sport Standardization, provide reliable scientific support for the government policy-makers in making relevant policies. Besides, 163 papers were published with the College teachers as the first authors or independent authors and 25 academic monographs were published.
College of Management has been dedicated to its function of serving society. In the cooperations with Ministry of Personnel of PRC, Fudan University, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Sport Bureau of Jilin and Anhui provinces ,Beijing Bei’ao Corporation Ltd.and Commerce Website of Peking University etc., set up Morden Sport School of Beihai College of Beihang University, and some training sessions have been opened up such as sport agents, sport managers, sport MBA etc., and many higher-caliber sport managers have been cultivated. Furthermore, other forms of services have been offered to society in that the College organized the 2005 Beijing Sport Commodity Expo and 2006 National Seminar for Badminton Referees.
Facing the booming development of China’s sport undertaking, College of Management is vigorously advancing its move of the “Third Innovation”, making enthusiastic contributions to the construction of the training-researching-teaching Center and the “211 Project” university, realizing the university’s long-term objective to be a world-class sport university, educating more senior management personnel and turning the College into a pool of talents and resources for the future development of the Chinese sport cause. |
